CS2Friends ("we", "us", "our", or "the Service") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website cs2friends.com (the "Site") and use our services. Please read this privacy policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, please do not access the site or use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

We may collect information about you in a variety of ways. The information we may collect via the Service includes:

  • Steam Information: When you log in using your Steam account via Steam OpenID, we receive information made available by Steam according to your Steam privacy settings and the permissions granted. This typically includes your public Steam ID (64-bit), public persona name (username), public profile picture URL, and potentially your real name and location codes if public on Steam.
  • Game Data: We collect publicly available Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) game statistics, achievements, ban status (VAC and game bans), owned games list, and playtime associated with your Steam account via the Steam Web API.
  • User-Provided Information: Information you voluntarily provide to us through your CS2Friends profile, such as your preferred playstyle, rank/ELO, availability, microphone usage, spoken languages, location details (if different from Steam), Discord username, or a short bio. Important: Do not enter sensitive personal data (e.g., health information, religious or political beliefs, sexual orientation) into free-text fields like your bio.
  • Interaction Data: Data generated through your use of the Service, such as Friend Finder interactions (likes, dislikes, matches), profile visibility settings, and timestamps for logins and data refreshes.
  • Technical Data: We may automatically collect standard server log information, such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, access times, and pages viewed directly before and after accessing the Site. This is primarily used for security and operational purposes.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information unless you voluntarily provide it in free-text fields.

3. Disclosure of Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share information we have collected about you in certain situations:

  • By Law or to Protect Rights: If we believe the release of information about you is necessary to respond to legal process, to investigate or remedy potential violations of our policies, or to protect the rights, property, and safety of others, we may share your information as permitted or required by any applicable law, rule, or regulation.
  • Third-Party Service Providers: We may share your information with third parties that perform services for us or on our behalf, including data hosting, analytics, and customer service. These providers have access to your information only to perform these tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.
  • Publicly Visible Information: Your CS2Friends profile information (including Steam data and user-provided details) may be visible to other users of the Service depending on your privacy settings configured within the Service.
  • Aggregated Data: We may share aggregated or anonymized data, which cannot reasonably be used to identify you, for research or statistical purposes.
  • Business Transfers: We may share or transfer your information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business to another company.

We provide you with tools to manage your information and privacy preferences:

6. Data Breach Notification Policy

We are committed to notifying you in the event of a data breach involving your personal information. If we become aware of a security breach that results in unauthorized access, use, or disclosure of your personal information, we will investigate the matter promptly and take appropriate steps to mitigate the potential harm. If a breach occurs that requires notification under applicable law, we will notify affected users without undue delay after becoming aware of the breach. Notification may be provided via email (if we have your email address), through a prominent notice on our Site, or as otherwise required by applicable law. If direct contact is not feasible for all affected users, we may utilize a site-wide notification. Our notification will describe the nature of the breach, the types of information potentially compromised, the steps we are taking to address the breach, and steps you can take to protect yourself.

7. Data Retention

We will retain your personal information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy, including for the duration of your active account and as required to comply with our legal obligations (e.g., if we are required to retain your data to comply with applicable laws), resolve disputes, and enforce our legal agreements and policies. Data may persist in backups for a limited period according to our backup schedules.

8. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use essential cookies primarily to maintain your logged-in session state. We do not currently use cookies for third-party advertising, analytics tracking beyond basic server logs, or cross-site tracking. If this changes, we will update this policy.

9. Policy for Children

We do not knowingly solicit information from or market to children under the age of 13 (or 16 in some jurisdictions). If you become aware of any data we have collected from children under the relevant age, please contact us using the contact information provided below so we can take appropriate action.

10. Steam API and Third-Party Data

Our Service relies on the Steam Web API provided by Valve Corporation to fetch publicly available data associated with your Steam account. We are not affiliated with, endorsed, or sponsored by Valve Corporation. Your use of Steam is subject to Valve's own terms of service and privacy policy. The availability, accuracy, and scope of data provided by the Steam API may change at any time based on Valve's policies or your Steam privacy settings. **We disclaim any and all liability for any loss, interruption, limitation, or changes in Service functionality caused directly or indirectly by the Steam Web API, its availability, its terms, or your individual Steam privacy settings.**

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
